Autism Resources for Families
There are many online resources for parents.
Below are various websites to get started:
- Start by reading the “100 Day Kit” on The Autism Speaks Website:

Books that we recommend for caregivers of children with Autism:

- Quirky Kids: Understanding and Supporting Your Child With Developmental Differences by Klass and Costello
It is important to provide your child with early behavioral interventions. These can be provided through:
- Early Intervention for children under 3 years of age
- The Department of Education (DOE) should provide supports through an individualized education plan (IEP) for children 3 years of age and older
- Your insurance company, such as applied behavior analysis (ABA) or additional speech/occupational therapy
- Paying privately for these services
- State supports, in NYC this is called the Office for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD)
Social Skills Group:
- YAI has a group in Manhattan, which covers topics like friendships, communication, social boundaries, awareness of others, and more. Call YAI at 212-273-6182 or visit: https://www.yai.org/services/social-skills-groups-adolescents-and-young-adults-autism-spectrum-manhattan
